The type is Garamont, designed by Frederic W. Goudy, handset for display, the text composed and cast on the Monotype by Mackenzie-Harris Corp. The paper is Ingres, mouldmade in France. The leather binding is decorated using a stamping die made up of printers' flowers in an arrangement inspired by 16th century ornamental covers. A fine copy. This printing of the 16th century Golding manuscript follows the layout of the emblem books of the time and emulates Plantin's printing of the Latin source for Golding's translation, "Mythologica ethica" of Arnold Freitag (1579). The illustrations are photoengravings taken from the 125 etchings by Marcus Gheeraerts. With a genealogy of the Fables, Annotations, Notes, Glossary, Bibliography and Index.
